Unspoiled nature and culture sites near your campsite.
The region of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie offers a great number of surprises through its coast, dunes, forest and marshes. Explore this exceptional site in an unspoiled nature. You’ll find many activities to share with family or friends:

  • Water sports like surfing, kite surfing, stand-up-paddle and sailing;
  • Lovely hikes or cycle tracks by the sea or in the counrtyside can be accessed around the campsite.

One of the treasures of our region is the presence of numerous salt marshes; nature sites housing many birds. A visit you may not miss: the Observatory of the île d’Olonne. The salt workers in the salt marshes will also be happy to present their work of salt harvesting.

Plenty of activities in the natural environment of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie.

The forest of Olonne, located near the campsite, is crosssed by signposted tracks, some of which will lead to the Plage de Sauveterre (famous surf spot).

Try some shellfish picking with your family, and taste winkles, shrimp and limpets!

The region of Brem sur Mer is also scattered with vineyards. As a reward for the quality of their wines, the winegrowers have obtained the ‘Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC)’ label in 2011.

The hinterland also hides some lovely strolls… The lake of Jaunay (at 15 minutes from Le Chaponnet) offers 40 ha of nature crossed by hiking and cycling tracks.

Geocaching in the region of Saint Gilles

Geocaching is an activity offered by the 4 Tourist Information Offices of the region of Saint Gilles, including the one of Brem sur Mer. This activity allows to visit less known but still as interesting tourist sites. It is an original and fun way to explore the area. It’s also a great idea to encourage children to discover the cultural heritage. Thanks to Geocaching, the most beautiful nature and culture sites become accessible for the entire family, in a fun way.

In the region of Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, you’ll find 19 Geocaching sites.

To participate, you need a hiking GPS (to hire at the Tourist Information Office) or a smartphone (download the app geocaching.com), as well as a basic sense of orientation…

It is also necessary to bring a few items. The idea is to find a ‘hiding place’ at each halt, holding a small ‘treasure’, that needs to be replaced by you, for the next participants.

During your stay at Camping Le Chaponnet, between 2 dips at the pool, you can discover this great game! For information: particpating will cost you 3 € for ½ a day and 5 € per day in 2014 for the hire of a GPS.
